Humanistic Ethics

I have been thinking for quite some time now about the outlines of a thoroughly humanistic ethics, particularly in connection with the 'ethics of war' if one can be permitted such a phrase. International agreements may exist regarding the 'humane' conduct of war, but from a consistently humanistic perspective, the contradiction in terms becomes immediately apparent. War is antithetical to humaneness understood as the best in humanity.
